The description
Arthur Robb Ocean Racer 45
Ramrod is a classic 45-foot wooden ocean-racing yacht, designed by renowned New Zealand-born naval architect Arthur C. Robb and built by Port Hamble in England in 1959 for Selwyn Slater and R. McLoughlin. Designed as a fast offshore racer and developed from Robb’s earlier yacht Uomie, Ramrod achieved its greatest success in 1959, when she helped the British team win the prestigious Admiral’s Cup. She continued racing until 1966, including winning the Nab Tower Race at Cowes, before transitioning to fast cruising and offshore sailing. Her subsequent history includes transatlantic passages and use as a training yacht for Sea Scouts. Built with a tropical hardwood hull on oak framing, Ramrod combines classic lines, proven offshore performance and a distinguished racing heritage. Since around 2007, she has been privately owned in Belgium and based in Ostend. She is officially recognised as a vessel of maritime heritage in Flanders. She is well maintained and serviced, underwent a complete hull and deck renovation in 2013, comes with a new aluminum Proctor mast, a modern Nanni diesel engine fitted in 2004 (37hp, 450 hours), an efficient diesel heating system in the cabin, and a complete inventory of sails, navigation instruments and gear.Contact seller
